Life is good

With a title like that, it makes me sound like I've got it all figured out. The fact is, that couldn't be further from the truth. If there's one thing I've learnt, it's that life has a great way of kicking you in the pants when you think you're on top.

Throughout my life, I've made a habit of saying "Oh stuff it" and doing my own thing and that's made me into an "overachiving bum". Those years of "drifting" have taught me lots about the highs and lows of life, I've seen the world a few times and dedicated a season to snowboarding but it's probably put me a few years behind most of my friends in terms of career development.

So after all that time of "doing my thing", it almost feels like I'm starting my life again. This time in Sydney. After a bit of a rough start, I'm starting to figure this city out. Coming from the ski season at Big White, I was used to having friends looking to party all the time. To be fair to Sydney, everything was going to seem really sedate in comparison.

So, the last 3 months have been pretty rough for me, I've messed up a few friendships along the way, been a bit homesick and overworked. There hadn't been many positives to take out of that, and I'd managed to let my confidence take a beating. The biggest problem for me was just to get out of my funk and start to think positively again. But now I'm well on the way to seeing things half full again and to be honest, the last few weeks have been some of the best here in Sydney. Part of that is taking a positive spin on life, but the other is meeting up with old friends again. I really miss just chatting to friends who just "get it". You can communicate without having to say a word between each other, because you just know what the other person is saying. It was like that when i met up with Mike the last few weekends.

So after all that, I'm really looking forward to heading back to Perth this Summer. It's always good to go back home and spend some time with the friends and family that I haven't seen for ages.
