Well, I've lived through my first Phoenix Tournament, and now that I'm chilling out at home, and the cramp is slowly disappearing from my legs, a brief reflection on the weekend is in order.
For a start, I think we surprised a lot of people this weekend by making the final, even myself. I mean, on paper, I'd have said it would be Zoltan vs SWAT. In fact, I only brought down enough water for 2 games, not expecting to have to play a 3rd. However, whilst other teams had better individual players, I think that we gelled better as a team than some of the others in the tournament, and that got us over the line many times.
Secondly, I'm a bit bummed at coming so close to winning the title, and not taking it out. Runner-up is first loser. But in perspective, perhaps it's a good thing, keeping me hungry to make my game better. Already I feel like I can read the game so much better than on Friday. Mind you, I feel for the other players like Bakes, Steve and Balen who finished 2nd last year as well.
Thirdly, i think our success in one particular game was due to the fact that the other team spent half the night drinking at the Floreat rather than getting some decent sleep, and that gave us the edge on one of our games. Drinks after the game are an essential part of the tournament, and I'm glad I didn't pike, when I was soooo tempted to go home and pass out. Cheers Tim, Andy and Katie for bruising my ego (they threatened to call me old...) and dragging me out.
Anyway, once the sunburn has peeled, the cramp is but a distant memory and the grass burns healed, I'll look back at the tournament as a whole bunch of fun, and that's what Ultimate's all about.
Following on from this article, I've managed to integrate Gallery into the MT framework. However, the stylesheet needs a bit of work, but other than that, things should be looking good very soon.
Anyway, it's time to go to sleep, have Ulti state championships tomorrow... Sweeet :-)
Hi, following on from my Froogle Post, I had a friend point me to Booble which is a search engine for "images".... :)
OK, I'm slowly building this website up, bit by bit, and today I've managed to parse the Sydney Morning Herald's website and scratch up a few headlines to place under the News Feeds. Will probably start parsing for other websites that i frequent (mozilla.org, slashdot.org, openbsd.org, perth weather and forecast, etc... )
Anyway, now that I've done 1, i think it shouldn't take long to parse a few more.
I was cruising IMDB today, and found a link to one of my favourite movies of all time, Office Space. If you've ever worked in a cubicle behind a computer, you can relate to the characters in this movie. Anyway, I started searching for soundbites from the movie, and came across this site, which led me to exploring the TLD.
If you're sick of your job, this is the site for YOU.
Ok, I don't really have much to say about today, except that I went to the beach almost all day and I didn't get nearly enough done on my thesis. But my last post was a summary of useful Unix commands, and I can't have such a geeky entry on the top of my blog.

I found this site because my LG DVD player couldn't handle any of the DVD's I bought from the States, not to mention my beloved Ali G, Bling, Bling DVD I bought in the UK. Now, I'm one happy camper again.
Yesterday, in fact the whole weekend was an absolute scorcher. It hit 41C ( I think that's like 106F) over here in Perth on Sunday, which was absolutely perfect for having a pool side bbq. The first, last and only photo I took was [View image] which is a pity because it was a pretty sweeet bbq. Why is it that the best moments in life are the ones you rarely capture on camera? It's probably a sign that you're having too much fun anyway to worry about taking photos.
Anyway, speaking of hot weather, I'm addicted to a new sport called Ultimate Frisbee, and it's the PERFECT summer sport. Right now I'm in training for W.A. state championships which is a 2 day tournament held over the Australia Day long weekend. That means training we've been training in the heat of the day, and it was so hot, my footy boots were melting. If you've never seen Ultimate, I suggest finding a field where it's played and have a go, it's so ADDICTIVE. It kinda also helps that I LOVE frisbees.
Also, after trolling through Jack's Blog I found my first reference! The posting is here. I'm pretty stoked about the whole thing, as that's the whole point of blogging, that someone else notices!
Well, that's about all for now, but I might start some of rating system for my days, kinda like one of those dodgy horoscopes you read in the back of the paper (notice how they never give out less than 3 stars or else people would start killing themselves.... Well, that's my theory [suggestions?]).
Day Rating: 4 stars.
Last week I had a slight problem with my OpenBSD box, in that Apache was constantly crashing and bringing the system down. I know this is an extremely rare occurance. Anyway, the problem was that Apache automatically started on boot, and there's no way I knew how to go through the boot process interactively (ANY SUGGESTIONS?)
Anyway, here's my work around, which is based on what happens when you forget the root password:
(1) At the
boot >>prompt enter:
boot >> boot -s
localhost >>prompt enter:
localhost >> fsck -p /usr && mount /usr
localhost >> fsck -p / && mount -uw /
localhost >> tcsh
localhost >> setenv TERM xterm

Phew... what a day? Hope you're all recovered from the NYE celebrations. now that my hangover is gone, it's time to reflect on a solid 24+ hour party. And what a random 24 hours it was:
Riding to the Cott with 7 other guys in a car (not cool, although at least i wasn't in the boot), watching the last sunset of the year and watching the first sunrise of the year (very cool). Meeting lots of people you haven't seen for a while( very cool). Remembering why you haven't seen them for a while (sorry simon, but it wasn't what i wanted to hear on the night). Catching one of the first taxi's out of the Cott (very cool). Jumping on the right train, only for a friend to tell me it's the wrong train and going to Perth instead of Freo (not very cool). Ending up having a great time at the hip-e-club (very cool). Getting kicked out of the Hip-e-club because they wanted to shut (not cool). Early morning swim at the beach (very cool), passing out in changerooms at the beach (not cool). Having some naked guy wake you up because you passed out in the changerooms (sooooo NOT cool). Power napping on some random person's couch (THANKS KENDELL!!! YOU ROCK!!!!). Winning $160 at the races and shouting everyone beers all day (very cool).
So 2004 came in with a mix of everything that life had to offer. Lots of ups and downs, and once again I've learnt that just as quickly as things go down, they can go back up again. So, despite having a bit of a down year in 2003, 2004 is a clean slate ready for the upswing. And so far things are looking pretty good...
